Raghav Chadha suspended from Rajya Sabha for ‘violation of rules’

Raghav Chadha, an AAP MP, has been suspended from the Rajya Sabha following accusations of including the names of five Rajya Sabha MPs in a select committee without their consent.

The suspension will remain in effect until the committee of privileges concludes its investigation and submits its findings. The suspension motion was presented by Piyush Goyal, who criticized Chadha’s actions as unethical and a breach of privilege.

Chadha denied the allegations, asserting that an MP can propose committee members without requiring their written consent.

Chadha’s dismissal of objections from fellow parliamentarians and his comparison of the situation to a birthday party were also criticized by Goyal, who deemed such behavior unbecoming of a parliamentarian.

Amit Shah, the Union home minister, had previously accused Chadha of forging signatures on the motion, to which AAP responded by stating that only names, not signatures, were needed, and that the names were included in good faith.
