Jeff Bezos, Amazon’s Executive Chairman, along with his fiancée Lauren Sanchez, who serves as the vice chair of the Bezos Earth Fund, has committed to donating $100 million to aid in the restoration of Maui after devastating wildfires ravaged the island. This disaster resulted in over 90 fatalities, the displacement of thousands, and extensive destruction of buildings and businesses, marking it as one of the most severe natural calamities in the United States.
Lauren Sanchez used social media to announce their heartfelt response to the catastrophe, expressing their sorrow over the devastation. They have initiated a fund to assist the Hawaiian island in its recovery efforts and to help it rebuild after the tragedy.
In a post on Instagram, Ms. Sanchez emphasized the urgency of addressing both immediate and long-term needs. She mentioned that the process of rebuilding will be essential even as the initial attention starts to wane. To support Maui’s recovery in the present and in the foreseeable future as ongoing necessities emerge, Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sanchez have established the Maui Fund, committing $100 million towards this endeavor.
