A tragic incident unfolded in southern India as an explosive device detonated at a convention center, resulting in the loss of one life and causing injuries to 36 individuals.
The incident occurred on a Sunday at the Zamra International Convention Center in Kalamassery, located in Kerala state, where hundreds of Jehovah’s Witness faithful had gathered for a prayer session.
Sheik Darvesh Saheb, the state’s top police officer, disclosed that the initial investigation indicated the use of an improvised explosive device in the incident. Many of the wounded sustained burn injuries and were swiftly transported to hospitals for medical attention.
Videos shared online captured the immediate aftermath of the explosion, showing flames inside the convention center and rescue teams assisting in the evacuation of the building.
Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan addressed the incident, stating that the police were actively investigating this “unfortunate incident.” In response to the situation, authorities have placed police and medical personnel on high alert throughout the state.
Jehovah’s Witnesses, although identifying as Christians, adhere to distinctive beliefs and practices and are renowned for their door-to-door proselytism efforts.
